We need your opinion!!

Hello All,

Calvary Bible Church has had the great opportunity to test out 3 different types of microphones for our awesome choir. It is difficult to get mic companies to let anyone borrow 1 mic, let alone 3 mics of each type. We are extremely fortunate to have this chance to test these.

The models are:
Shure KSM-137
Shure KSM-32
Shure KSM-44
Audio Technica AT4050

The mics we were using before the test were:
Shure MX418 with the R185 capsule (cardioid pattern)

Through the past few weeks we have tested 3 out of the 4 mics (we are omitting the KSM 44's due to price and we only have 2 of those to test). We have narrowed our selection down to 2 mics we like. The KSM-137's and the AT4050's. Last Wednesday during rehearsal Mark D. had the choir run the same song twice in a row. Below you will find the recordings for these. We would appreciate any input you can give us on either of these. Technical terms are not necessary. Use adjectives to describe what you are hearing. Tell us what you like and don't like about these and which recording you prefer.

Now I have to give you a little set-up.
1. You will notice that one of the recordings is noticably softer than the other. Please do not use that as a judging point. That was a recording error on my part.
2. The only mics that were sent to the recorder were the choir mics. Anything else you hear came from the choir mics.
3. To the best of my ablility I believe I gave each mic the best chance it had at succeding in live sound. They both are in the feedback destroyer and have their own individual EQ's.
4. They are all equal in placement and angle.

Finally please don't respond to this blog with a comment I would like to let people form their own opinions before reading others. Send an e mail with your thoughts to: daniel_joel@sbcglobal.net
I will post all of the e mails (with your permission) on this blog after a week.

Mic Test #1
Mic Test #2

Thank you for your help! We greatly appreciate your opinion!
Dan
